How bad are the bugs right now, by region — like AQI, but for mosquitoes. Scored 0–100 from recent WTA trip reports; fresh local reports count most and old ones decay away.
What the number means
Hikers grade bugs on WTA trip reports in four steps. MMI is the average grade of recent reports in a region, stretched to 0–100 — so the score always reads as “what the average fresh report says.” Newer reports count more: a report's influence halves every 10 days.

Every recent trip report contributes a bug-misery score — from the report's structured bug rating when the hiker filled it in, otherwise mined from the report text (mentions of bug spray, DEET, or head nets count as bugs-present evidence). Each report's influence halves every 10 days, so the index always reflects current conditions: a six-month-old horror story can't inflate today's number. Regions without enough recent reports show their parent region's estimate instead of a confident local reading. Trend arrows compare today's reading against what the index read 3 and 7 days ago; changes under 3 points show as steady.
