Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm

North Cascades

updated 6 months ago

As of February 16, 2026, Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm conditions are unknown. However, reports from late September 2025 indicate the road to the trailhead was manageable for most vehicles, though washboard sections and a significant pothole near the end required careful driving. Parking was available early on weekdays, but could be challenging on weekends.

Hikers experienced variable conditions: some found clear, stunning views with abundant pika and ripe berries (September 26), while others encountered dense smoke causing eye irritation (September 23). Wind was a consistent factor, with some reporting being "socked in" initially but later emerging above clouds (September 25). Fall foliage was present but not yet at peak. The upper Sahale Arm featured cold winds and ice pellets on September 26. The final stretch to Sahale Arm involves a boulder field.
