Dog Mountain

Southwest Washington

updated 1 week ago

As of mid-June 2026, Dog Mountain's wildflower bloom is largely past peak, with balsamroot fading. However, other wildflowers like lupine, Indian paintbrush, and phlox may still be visible. The trail is steep with sections of loose gravel, especially on descent. Hiking poles and good traction footwear are recommended.

Parking is available at the trailhead, but it fills up quickly, especially on weekends. A recreation pass is required. While some reports note plentiful parking early, others suggest arriving early on Fridays for a spot.

No snow is reported on the trail. Ticks have been noted in late spring, so insect repellent is advised. The summit can be windy. Some hikers opt for the Augspurger Trail for a gentler descent, adding mileage but saving knees.
