Hoh River Trail to Blue Glacier

Olympic Peninsula

updated 1 week ago

The Hoh River Trail to Blue Glacier is in excellent condition, with reports from August 31 and September 18 highlighting a well-maintained and brushed path. Snow-free conditions are expected, and the road is suitable for all vehicles. Several reports mention minor obstacles like a dry riverbed at mile 12 that is not well-flagged, and some step-over and scrunch-under logs between the High Bridge and Elk Lake. Hornet and yellow jacket nests have been noted, with one particularly close to the trail before OGS, and another well-flagged near Elk Lake. Water sources are abundant, but one report advises against using silty water. Crowds can be significant, especially at the trailhead, so early starts are recommended, July 16, July 17. The climb to Elk Lake is strenuous, and the final approach to Blue Glacier involves a steep, rocky, and exposed section with a ladder climb that can experience delays, July 16.
