As of 2026-04-07, there was a downed tree near the top of the peak. Mud has been reported in several spots, with the trail down to the lower falls being particularly bad on 2026-04-03.
A washout/slide near the upper falls made continuing the trail "dodgy" as of 2026-04-03. Some paths around the falls themselves are steep and slick, and may be difficult for those less accustomed to hiking. On 2026-01-25, three clusters of large downed trees on the Trail of the Giants required careful navigation.
Parking can fill up, with one report from 2026-04-03 noting it was close to full upon return. A portable toilet is available at the parking lot, as confirmed by reports from 2026-04-03 and 2026-02-11.
The area at the upper falls has a washout/slide that made further progress difficult on 2026-04-03. While Hugo Peak itself offers views, one report from 2026-02-11 states that the view from the peak itself was not particularly impressive.
