As of September 17, the trail is reported to be snow-free. Earlier reports in July and August indicated intermittent snow that was not difficult to cross (August 3, August 16).
Parking at Artist Point can become very crowded, especially on busier days. The lot was over half full by 9:30 am on September 17 and overflowing by 1 pm. On August 3, the lot was overflowing mid-day, with people parking well down the highway.
Some steep sections with exposed drop-offs exist, particularly on the switchbacks, which may be challenging for those with acrophobia or younger children. As of August 3, one section was described as a rock slab/knob hitting in the upper chest. Hikers have also noted some loose rocks and big rock slabs on these steeper portions (August 21).
