As of July 6, 2026, access to Blanca Lake Trailhead is significantly impacted. While parking is plentiful due to road closures, the Index-Galena road has washouts. One report from May 9 indicates a severe washout and bridge damage, making it inaccessible by vehicle, requiring a 16-mile addition to reach the trailhead. Another report on May 2 notes a boulder blockade and downed trees preventing vehicle access past Jack Pass.
Once on the trail (as of July 6), expect numerous downed trees. Mosquitoes are present near creeks but otherwise manageable. The vault toilet at the trailhead is locked, and the one at the top is full.

Road is fine for all until you get to Jack Pass. The road down from Jack Pass to the trailhead is blocked with a row of boulders. From the blockade you can see several trees down over the road.
