The Deception Creek trail is currently experiencing a significant obstacle: the footbridge at the main creek crossing is out as of August 3. While it's possible to rock hop or wade across, the trail can be difficult to relocate on the other side, especially with the current water levels. Some blowdowns exist on the trail, particularly after the second creek crossing, though previous reports of blowdowns further in appear to have been cleared. The road to the trailhead is generally suitable for all vehicles, though one report from July 25 noted issues on Tonga Ridge Road, recommending high clearance for that specific access. Snow is not a concern, and bugs were not problematic in late July and early August.

The bridge is out, and hikers have reported rock hopping or wading across. The creek can be knee-deep, and finding the trail again on the opposite bank has been noted as difficult, July 25. GPS was helpful in relocating the trail after crossing.
