The trail to Owyhigh Lakes from Deer Creek Falls is generally snow-free, but expect numerous blowdowns that may require crawling under, as reported on July 25 and July 22. Parking at the trailhead along SR 123 is very limited, with some hikers using pullouts further north on July 25. Wildflowers were abundant in the meadows in late July and early August, July 22, July 13. Wildlife sightings, including bears and deer, have been noted, July 22, August 2.

Parking is very limited at the Deer Creek Falls trailhead. Some hikers had to use roadside pullouts north of the trailhead on July 25, and it was noted that the small pullout can fill quickly.
On the Deer Creek side, there are small streams and creeks to cross, with wetter conditions noted. However, the creek at Tamanos Camp was reported as mostly dry and just a trickle on August 2. The Sunrise Road side is described as dry with no water sources.
