Frog Mountain
Central Cascades
As of July 27, 2026, Frog Mountain is largely snow-free and offering excellent summit views, though some haze from wildfires may be present. Beckler River Road is in good condition, accessible to all vehicles, while Index-Galena Road remains closed due to washouts.
The trail is generally in good condition with a steady grade. Several downed logs (around 4-7) are present but easily navigated. The trail is dusty, especially in exposed sections. Wildflowers like fireweed and tiger lilies are still blooming in the upper meadows, but berries are scarce and not yet ripe.
Mosquitoes and flies can be present, particularly at the summit or when stopping, so insect repellent is recommended. A pit toilet at the trailhead is functional but needs minor repairs. Parking is generally ample, with early arrivals often finding solitude. A black bear was recently spotted near the parking lot.

I'd been hearing great things about this hike so I was eager to try it out on an overcast Sunday with my husband and two friends. A hiker pal of mine has compared it favorably to Beckler, so we set ou...
Loved this trail! One of the most evenly graded, steady incline trails Iβve hiked. The majority of the trail is shaded which was especially nice since we hiked on a sunny day. Beautiful views of Glaci...

No frogs 0/10Got really dusty in the afternoon. Everyone talked about mosquitoes but we only really had some flies, not too bad unless we sat down. Good views especially on the way down, and we had a ...
Beckler River Road is in great shape compared to the huge mess it was last spring. All the ruts, washouts and road debris that had made it high-clearance only have been smoothed out and any car can ea...
A little buggy on top, but otherwise not bad if you keep moving. Just a few wild flowers left. Interestingly, most of the steeper sections of this trail are shaded.Β Nice work, WTA!
Beautiful all the way to the top
Perfect day hike on Frog today. Yes, there are several blowdowns across the trail - all but two can be walked over, under or around with no trouble and the other two are no big deal. Wild flowers are ...
Arrived at the trailhead about 9:45am, only 4 other cars and 3 of them were still unloading so we all seemed to have the same idea/start time. Thereβs 4-5 trees down that you will need to climb over, ...
