The Lyle Cherry Orchard trail has seen a decline in peak wildflowers, with balsamroot and lupine mostly spent as of May 17. Poison oak is abundant and can be difficult to avoid due to the narrow trail and overhanging branches, as noted on May 17 and May 2. The trail itself is generally well-maintained and open, though there was a temporary closure for helicopter work on April 24. Hikers can expect significant sun exposure and wind, particularly on the steeper first mile, but the Discovery Loop offers excellent views of the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood.
