Mailbox Peak - Old Trail
Snoqualmie Region
Mailbox Peak Old Trail is snow-free and in good condition, though several reports mention sections of loose dirt and sand, especially on descents (July 26, July 25). Some hikers have strayed slightly off-trail, particularly in the upper sections, so paying attention to reflectors or using a navigation app is recommended (July 26, July 16, May 8). Parking can fill up, especially for later arrivals (July 26, May 30, May 9). Wildflowers are blooming near the summit (July 9, June 14). A black bear cub was sighted on the Old Trail on July 26. The Old Trail is steep and challenging, with tree roots and rocky sections.

Arrived at 6:45am, the upper lot was open and about 1/3 full. No toilet paper in either bathroom, but had extra in the car. Went up the old trail and down the new. Lots of dust and dirt on the trail, ...
Around 7am I was coming down and saw a black bear about half a mile up the old trail. It was a cub but I didn’t see a momma bear. It went towards the new trail so I was able to go down safely.

The trail's snow-free and in good shape except for one large blowdown that I'd guess is about 2500' above the bottom. The way around is a little slippery but doable. We were in a cloud at the top (thou...
Awesome trail! Super fun and amazing views at the top. Parking lot is pretty small and fills up fast so you just park on the side of the road. It's very steep and harder than Si. Be careful of coming ...
