South Cascades
The Nannie Ridge-Sheep Lake trail is in good condition, with most blowdowns easily navigable as of August 31. Snow has completely melted out from the trail, leaving it clear for hikers. Both Sheep Lake and the nearby pond still have ample water and offer nice campsites, though the lake can be crowded with campers. The road leading to the trailhead is rough and washboarded, but generally passable for most vehicles. Bugs have not been a significant issue on this trail recently.

The road is described as rough and washboarded for many miles. While passable for most vehicles, there are sections with significant potholes or washouts that require slower speeds for lower-clearance cars. The road does transition to asphalt about 4 miles from Walupt Lake, August 29,, R4).
Both Sheep Lake and the pond near it still had plenty of water and nice campsites as of August 31. Walupt Lake also had a ton of established campsites, but it can get crowded, with some campers setting up in meadow areas when designated spots are full,.

I car camped for a couple of nights at Walupt Lake so I could get a fresh start in the morning up the ridge and beyond on the PCT. The trail was in great shape with only a few logs down near the top, ...
I did this as a loop hike taking PCT-Walupt Lake back to the trailhead on day 2. The lake has a ton of established campsites, however there were enough people that many set up camps in the meadow area...
The trail up Nannie Ridge is in remarkably good shape and there is still a decent sized creek a little way up the trail. On both sides of the pass there are trees down that are a bit of a challenge to...

We planned to backpack to Sheep lake on Sat 06/13 as the weather forecast was really good. Unfortunately due to a lack of trip reports and reviews, we did not know what to expect. Here are the latest ...
Hiked from Walput lake to Nannie ridge (With a side trip to Nannie peak) and then to Cipsus pass and Cipsus basin. It's 16 miles and 4100' gain, but the trail is in very good condition, so the hike is...
FS 21 into the hike has a fair amount of washboard, but not too mnt potholes. The Nannie Ridge Trail to Sheep Lake is well-established, and well-worn. (I rated it with “minor obstacles” for the rocky,...
🏞️ Walupt Lake Loop via Nannie Ridge & Sheep LakeI hiked this beautiful loop clockwise, starting with the Nannie Peak Trail. The trail wastes no time: it’s straight up switchbacks right from the get-g...
Howdy all, thought I'd try this trip report thing. The PNW has turned me from a serial couch potato/casual-at-best nature appreciator into a hiking fanatic, and lately I've been itching to try my hand...
I started my hike a little after 10 a.m. on a beautiful fall day and I only saw a few other hikers. We stayed at the Walupt Lake Campground and it was a short walk to the trailhead. The trail is in ex...
