As of August 2, 2026, the Summerland to Panhandle Gap trail is largely snow-free, with only a short, ~10-foot section of snow remaining just below the gap. This snow patch is manageable, with hikers navigating it on either side or through it. Parking at the Summerland lot can fill by mid-morning, with roadside parking becoming the alternative. Be aware of potential wildlife encounters, including bears and mountain goats. The Fryingpan Creek bridge is in place, but a steep, 4-foot bank on the exit side may require assistance.
