The road is described as long and bumpy, with washboarding and potholes. There is a particularly rough section with large, cobbled rocks closer to the trailhead, making high clearance vehicles recommended. However, one report from July 24 suggests a sedan could make it with careful driving.
The trail has some overgrown patches, particularly up to about 3 miles in, and a few downed trees that are easy to navigate over or around. The surface in the first mile is also rough with old river cobbles, making for uncertain footing. There are also a few deep holes in the trail in the brushy valley section.
The trailhead is a small pull-off with parking for a maximum of about seven cars. As of September 9, there were only two other cars present.
