The Buckskin Ridge trail currently has significant blowdowns, making navigation challenging in certain sections. A large blowdown area about 3.5 miles from the Slate Pass parking lot, described as looking like an avalanche, is particularly difficult to get through July 8. Further sections, especially around Lease Creek and the descent to Dot Lakes, are also reported as rough, slow going, and overgrown with blowdowns. While generally snow-free as of July 8 and July 3, some intermittent snow was present on July 3. The road to the trailhead is considered rough but passable, with one report recommending high clearance vehicles. Sections of the nearby Middlefork Pasayten and Boundary Trail are closed due to the Ptarmigan Fire.
