Kaleetan Lake is largely free of snow and bugs as of mid-September 2026. Reports from late August and mid-September indicate the trail is in good condition, with minor obstacles. The road to the trailhead is suitable for all vehicles. However, the Pratt River crossing presents a challenge due to slippery rocks and a log that can be used for passage, with some reports of hikers getting wet feet. Fall colors are beginning to appear around the lake basin. The main parking lot at Talapus Lake Trailhead can fill up, with overflow parking available on the road.

While generally in good condition, there are occasional blowdowns and slick rock sections. One report from September 15 specifically mentioned two areas on a lower boardwalk below the Pratt-Olallie/Talapus junction with deteriorated tread that pose impaling hazards. Another mentioned a challenging stream crossing that may require straddling a large tree as of July 17.
The Talapus Lake Trailhead parking lot can become full, especially on weekends. Overflow parking is available along the side of the road leading to the trailhead. One report from July 25 noted the main lot was full by 7:45 AM, with about 10-15 cars parked along the road. By 6 PM that day, the lot was about 60% full.
Fall colors were beginning to show by September 14 and were noted as beautiful in the lake basin with turning colors as of September 15. One report from August 23 mentioned fall colors possibly starting early due to a dry year.
