Mount Townsend

Olympic Peninsula

updated 4 days ago

As of early May 2026, Mount Townsend is largely snow-free and in excellent condition. Reports from May 3rd and 7th indicate only small snow patches near the summit, easily navigable without traction. The road to the upper trailhead has some potholes but is generally passable for sedans with care. Parking at the upper lot is very limited, and arriving early is recommended. The pit toilet at the trailhead remains locked, so be prepared to pack out all trash. Wildflowers are beginning to bloom at higher elevations, and rhododendrons are showing buds, with peak bloom likely in late May. Views are dependent on cloud cover, with several reports mentioning intermittent clearings revealing surrounding peaks.
