Skookum Flats
Mount Rainier Area
Skookum Flats trail conditions are challenging due to significant winter storm damage. Numerous downed trees, some requiring difficult navigation, persist as of May 10th. A WTA work party has improved sections, but hikers should still anticipate obstacles. Snow was present in early April, up to 2 feet deep, and meltwater has created muddy and watery trail sections. The trailhead parking lot has water-filled potholes and limited space as of April 6th. The road has manageable potholes. Despite these challenges, Skookum Falls is reportedly flowing well, and trillium are blooming. Mosquitos are present near the falls.
