The lake itself, however, was noted to have an algae bloom in late August and early September, August 9. Wildflowers were reported to be at or near peak in early July. The road to the trailhead is generally described as rough but passable, with potholes, recommending a higher clearance vehicle like a Subaru or small truck, August 7, August 1. Parking at the Upper Dungeness trailhead was nearly full by noon on a Friday in early August, with overflow parking extending for miles down the forest road.

Parking at the Upper Dungeness trailhead can be extremely limited, especially on weekends. On a Friday in early August, the lot was nearly full by noon, with overflow parking extending for miles down the forest road. This was reported on August 7.
